James Wilson - "Solitude" Australian Landscapes
1st to 31st August 2008
“Solitude”
This series of images explores the variety and solitude of the Australian landscape.
The images do not represent the stereotypical Australian landscape – instead they portray some of the colour and richness of vegetation and abundance of water.
However they are shot in a dark style reflecting the true harshness and emptiness of the outback.
The series starts with a new dawn – a new beginning that reflects hope and inspiration. The series of images are then full of contrasts: scorched brown landscapes next to lush green grass: dark rock against blue sky: plants blocked by walls: a cluster of trees in an open space. The ending is represented by a scorching sunset over a baron desert – reinforcing the fact that the sun dominates Australia, and that most of the vast space is not lived in.
