"Scandinavian Influences" by Mats Levander

1st to 31st December 2011

Mats life in the outskirts of London by the bank of the River Thames revolves around the people and things he likes the most. Some of them Nordic, some of them British.

All of them good, meaningful, plentiful and beautiful.

With his Scandinavian background combined with life in the UK, he likes to bring out and get the best from his experiences.

The camera is a fantastic and amazing tool with which he uses to express himself and it is the medium of his choice. It could have been a brush or the written word instead.

In his pictures, he tries to illustrate a sense, a feeling or an emotion. To observe and to build a story. His work is based on lines and curves of nature, faces, architecture and the things which fascinate him, as well as the human body and he tries to work from detail to overview. He is inspired by creative people and processes, by other artists, books, movies, advertising, society and life and the world around him.

Mats was born in Sweden, and is currently living in Windsor, Berkshire. Regard England as his home and shares his time between life in the country and in central London. Mats started actively with photography the summer of 2010. He previously worked as an Advertising Account Director. In that capacity he achieved an interest for working with and looking at photography. He is presently also active in Market Development within the IT industry. He is a genuinely international person with a desire to discover more of his local and international surroundings. Mats has lived and worked in England, The Netherlands, Denmark, USA and Sweden. Mats other activities and interests include books, cars, cooking, politics, music and film.
