Chermiah Hart

London's cityscape is a unique mixture of old and new buildings. Chermiah started by visually exploring on the subject of 'The Architectural Landmark', it was not long until she settled her focus on architectural landmarks of the 60s such as 'Keeling House'. This body of work was submitted as part of Chermiah's masterpiece photography project and was part of a collection of studies. These include: visual works on Oxford's university architecture, vernacular architecture of the Baltic Islands, US vernacular country houses and collected theme park constructions.

In this photographic series, Chermiah compares architecture to giant objects or historic artefacts. In this way she found she could be more flexible with the building as a subject. "There are cross-sections of the building that render sensual poetry and authentic perspectives that are based on the graphic presentation, the pattern and the abstract."

The buildings have been captured in unexpected ways to extract the modern aesthetic values that they were to represent. A chance to envisage what is often overlooked and not seen in isolated parts. The way that they are captured points to modern aesthetic values in order to help us learn about the past/bygone era.
